I like barcelona but crime is so open in public that you have to keep on alert at all times, got rob plainly by a restaurant where we dine, make sure that what we order,assure the price was correct, when we get the bill, they charge us double, told us the price on the menu is for one person not per plate. we order one plate even it says 4 people can share.

Im a an ex club DJ. I gave it up when the smoking ban came in. No atmosphere!
Why is it that in 2009 you die at 85 because of smoking, but in 1950 you died at 66 because of old age, the numbers do not add up. We all agree that smoking is not good, and yes it is habit forming, and for 70 years most countries have been filling their coffers with the tax on cigarettes, I tend to believe that politicians have a guilty conscious and need to prove to themselves that they are doing good. Do you really think that old smokers only deserve to smoke outside in the cold and rain Amen
I probably won’t to be honest and who even said I was a smoker in the first place? The issue is personal freedom which you don’t seem to understand. Even if I don’t approve of somebody doing something, I’ll still support their right to do it as long as it’s not clearly wrong. Also, why do you feel the need to mention the British armed forces in every post you make? You’ve probably not done a days service in your life.

The point I was making is if you want (and I quote you) “Set the British army on them, round `em up and burn the tobacco crops, bomb the factories, close down the dealers” because they damage people’s health. So does fast food. So where do you differentiate? I could say eating fast food is a “foul filty shitty habit” and fat people are “blinded by their habit.” It’s an issue of personal choice and individual freedom.
So, all the supporters of tobacco use, what answer to the tens of thousands who die each year from smoking related causes?
It`s a drug, and it`s a very addictive drug, and those who use it are drug addicts.

But the addicts are blinded by their habit, and the dealers and producers have money and influence, some of which seems evident here.

Perhaps, I should have mentioned that my grandfather served during WW1, in the trenches, where each man was given rations of tobacco and death.

Landsker, may I ask if you approve of the bombing of fast-food restaurants like McDonalds, Burger King and KFC? How about bombing car manufacturing factories? What about vine vineyards? If you argument is consistent, all these things cause deaths so following your logic, it would be appropriate to.
Perhaps you should try and keep the factories open as, judging by your argumentative skills, it seems to be an appropriate place for you to work.
Smoking ban is way to put american caffes shops like starbacks and fast food industry on first and only places people have to go out. Thats all folks!

The point is it’s your personal choice. If you want to smoke, like risk using a car, then you should be allowed but take the consequences of your actions.
As a non-smoker, it is your choice to frequent places were smoking takes place, and again, you have to live with the consequences of you acts or ommisions.
Tobacco smoke kills thousands every year, both smokers, and passive smokers.
Tobacco is addictive and perjurious to health, manufacturers and sellers should be treated like drug dealers, hunted down to the end, and imprisoned without redress.
My grandad worked in a pub, never smoked, but died of throat cancer…..back in the day when they said smoking was “good for you”.

Regarding the actual campaign, well I believe pubs should be given the choice based on their own knowledge of their customers.
There are pubs that attract mainly smoking customers, just as there are pubs that typically attract non-smoking customers.
It seems rather harsh to have a blanket ban on smoking in pubs regardless of individual cases.
I am a smoker and the ban has certainly changed my social life.
The idea that FOREST started this campaign from some selfless motivation, when they heard of the plight of pubs and clubs around the country is bunkum. They are a front group for the Tobacco industry, not a grassroots organisation.
As the Wikipeidia entry declares (and sources too):

The funny thing is how unhealthy all the people in this video look.
It’s an Advert for upholding the ban. I know many people who stopped smoking because of the ban and are thankful for it. In the same way that places used the credit crunch as an excuse to lay off employees, These shit bars and pubs are using the smoking ban as an excuse as to why their businesses are failing.

That’s simply not true, second hand smoking is a major factor in causing lung cancer in non-smokers. Any research saying different is either made up or not in fact research at all.
Te scientific research shows that second hand smoke is a trivial factor in causing serious diseases in non smokers. People think there is strong evidence for a link because the pressure groups and lying politicians and public officials have deceived them about it.
Many swallow the baseless propaganda because it fits their own prejudices. Lies should not be used as a tool of public policy. Wait till lies are used to ban something you like-it is the slippery slope to tyranny.

There needs to be choice, with some premises licensed for smoking. People who object to smoke could visit pubs etc where smoking does not take place. Surveys prior to the ban showed most non smokers were not bothered about smoking in the pubs they used. The ban has had a disastrous affect on the trade, with fewer than ever going out for a drink because of it.
i cant go in my pub and breathe cos it closed down last year , all i remmeber was a foul urine smell and sitting outside in the garden lots of fights with people passing by and the place being boarded up theres also a club that use to have bands and original entertainment from locals but now its turned into a roller skating place due to lack of custom but i dont think its working as its always empty think it will be closed and turned into houses soon from what i know pubs are dead

I love the law, if smokers want to smoke, then whats so hard about going outside?

Why does it take the law to make them go smoke free? Why didn’t they do it voluntarily? Don’t confuse what you want with what everyone wants. SHS is harmless. You have willingly been indoctrinated with progaganda because it chimes with your personal view of smoking. Freedom is progress. Freedom is forwards. Authoritarianism is backwards, that’s why we can and should turn back on it.
