Discount Security Cameras Adapts to Hard Drive Shortage After Recent Thailand Flooding

Network Video Server

Jacksonville, FL. (PRWEB) November 10, 2011

Three weeks after monsoon waters flood central Thailand, some of the world’s largest computer plants are still closed and others are short on parts, according to an article by the New York Times. Preparing for this issue, Discount Security Cameras is purchasing and stocking up on hard drives for their customer’s needs in the months ahead.

“Our customers need hard drive storage for their security solutions. So we have done everything we can to prepare for this shortage. We even drove all over the city and bought every hard drive on the shelf that people would sell to us,” says Dave Page, president of DSC.

Hit hard by the hard drive shortage and rising prices is the CCTV industry in the U.S. Top hard drive makers such as Western Digital and Seagate who have plants over in Thailand are unable to produce the parts that are a critical component of digital video recorders (DVRs) and network video recorders (NVRs). Each DVR or NVR contains at least one hard drive, and some can contain up to 16 hard drives or more.

In an article by the Washington Times, experts estimate that it could take months for the supply chain to be completely restored after the monsoon flooding that has already killed 377 people and devastated the country and industrial area.

Local distributors like CompUSA have initiated a new policy limiting hard drive sales to a maximum of 5 per customer per day to keep from running out of stock. Other computer part distributors are reacting to this shortage by raising prices or requiring resellers to buy additional products bundled with each hard drive. Prices for hard drives have doubled to what they were a week ago according to a recent article from Reuters.

“We paid double for these drives but we’ve got to have them available for our customers,” says Page.

For the time being, Discount Security Cameras recommends that customers purchase the least amount of hard drives per DVR that they can get the job done with until prices go back down. For more information, please visit http://www.discount-security-cameras.net.
